Can you guess where I have been?

I was up in the hills yesterday. Can you guess where I was?  Here is a clue - I was north of Dunedin  but south of the Waitaki River. Tell us about your holiday adventures.

Welcome William

Tomorrow William is going to view our class blog. This is very interesting for us because next term William will join Room 9. You will be in the next photo William - welcome, welcome, welcome!  See you next term!

Outram School X Factor

There was a glorious festival of music in the school hall this afternoon. The programme included 16 performing acts ranging from dance, instrumental and singing. There were four excellent judges including Trent Renata and Liam Coltman from the Highlanders. If you look carefully you can see our very own Bridgette and her fellow performer Meg.

And still another penguin shelter arrives in Room 9

Reuben brought in a magnificent penguin shelter that he had made over the weekend. It was just the right size for our Room 9 Little Blue Penguin  and the straw inside made it very comfortable indeed. Well done Reuben!

The Little Blue Penguin Sponsored Run

We had watched the weather with great concern, especially as it was snowing the day before. But when the day arrived, the weather was perfect. The muesli bars, biscuits and sandwiches were ready on the tables next to the drink bottle table and away ran the Room 9 and 10 children. What perseverance and determination was seen as the children completed circuit after circuit. It was hard work, in fact very hard work, but everyone felt so proud afterwards. Hurray for the Middle Syndicate!

The Wala group from Ghana come to visit

We had a wonderful visit from the Wala drum group from Ghana. With great interest we listened  to their drumming, dancing and singing. Some children even got the chance to perform with them. Can you see Anita?

The money for the Little Blue Penguins is starting to arrive

We are hoping to raise $200 for the Little Blue Penguins at Brighton Beach and this money will be used to buy native plants to help camouflage the nesting boxes. Every day more money is arriving. It is very exciting!

Still more cooking

Our two last cooking groups did their baking today. Again there was careful measuring and pleasing co-operation as the two teams completed their baking task. The results look delicious.

Penguin Shelters

The Extra for experts challenge this week was to make or draw a shelter for a Little Blue Penguin. Several shelters arrived this morning and there was a lot of discussion and debate about the effectiveness of them. Well done children!

We have been cooking

The first two groups did their baking today. These bars and biscuits will give our runners energy when they do their sponsored run next week. The baking smelly delicious!

More taste testing

The children who are making muesli bars or biscuits had another session tasting all the extra ingredients that they could add to their baking. Each baking group tasted a number of ingredients and then they had to make a group decision. There was a lot of conversation!

My science project

I have been doing a weather watch science project.  I made a poster about how a barometer works. I have to do 8 science projects.
