Super Circuit Success

Today we spent a long time building structures to hold a circuit. Everyone managed to get their light to work. Saylah has built a house. Can you see her shining light?

If at first you don't succeed, try and try again

We all know how to make a circuit. Now we are having a technology challenge. What can we build with a circuit in it? I wonder what Macy is making.

Farewell to Wal

We have had a splendid week with Wal. He is wearing his new backpack which is full of letters for our Pinehill penpals.  Shalom Wal.

Wal Walrus you are a star!

Wal has now been with us for three days. He has been a great help in the classroom. We have finished our fact files for Pinehill School and we will post them tomorrow.

Excellent persevering Matthew

Looks good Matthew! What Chinese number are you writing?

Calligraphy with Mrs. Steadman

Today in our library session we had a wonderful session learning how to draw Chinese characters. We used proper ink, rice paper and brushes that used wolf hair! We are so lucky to have Mrs. Steadman.

What fun we had

We searched around the classroom to find conductors and insulators. Rylee found that the tin of tennis balls made a great conductor. Tell us if you think of other things we could try.

Conductors and insulators

Jaden and Chase found that the pencil tin acted as a conductor. Next they are going to try the wall stapler.

Gymnastics

We just love gymnastic in Room 9.  Look at Toni concentrating. Look straight ahead, point your toes and balance carefully. You are an expert!

Wal Walrus from Pinehill School comes to visit

Here is Wal Walrus from Pinehill School. He is with us this week. He liked doing gymnastics with Room 9. Tamara is my email pen pal from Room 3 Pinehill School.

Well done Mitchell and Amber

Look carefully. Can you see Mitchell and Amber? Mitchell recited a poem and got third in the competition. Amber danced the highland fling and won the junior section of the Talent Quest. Room 9 we really do shine!

We all went to the Outram School Talent Quest

This afternoon we all walked down to the hall to watch the Talent Quest. What wonderful talent we saw!

My light shone

We had to clip the crocodile clip on the light bulb. I made the real switch work.  I felt happy.

Factory made switches are easy to use

First of all we made our own switches.  Then we made circuits using factory made switches. It was much easier. Lauryn and Jordan can turn their light on and off.

Flower Show art

Today we worked at our Flower show art. We are doing batik flowers. We drew and crayoned our flowers. Next we will crumple our pictures and brush black paint over them. Finally we will wash the paint off. Come to the Flower Show and see our flowers.

Success!

Devon and Tessa have made a circuit with a switch. Now you can turn your light on and off. How else could you make a switch?

Let's make a switch

Our new challenge was to make a switch.   Looks like you're on the right track Tessa.   Do you think it will work?

All the time we shine Room 9

After school Amber and Toni showed their families just how clever they are.  "Look Dad, I will make the light shine," said Amber. "How about we use both batteries," said Toni.

Circuits are super

And then there was light!  We all persevered until our lights shone brightly. Britney and Cheyenne are showing great co-operation and team work.

This is tricky!

Now let me see!  How can I make the light work?  I wonder if I clip this wire on to here....... Daniel is definitely persevering.  Jaden thought his battery was flat and Jordan said, "It doesn't seem to work!"

Impressive poetry presentations

We have each learnt a poem by memory and presented it to the class. Well done everyone. Lauryn was the last person to share her poem. Listen to and enjoy her "Lunch box" poem.

Checking out batteries

We had a really good look at a battery. First we drew it and then we made some observations. Samantha  noticed  a little knob at one end and wondered why it was there. We wondered what 9V meant and why there was a + at one end and a - at the other end.  Our circuit detectives will find the answers.

Circuits and batteries

Today we started to think about circuits and batteries. What is a circuit and what is a battery? We decided to do a spider chart to see what we knew. "Batteries have acid in them and they make things work," said Jasen.  Amber said, "It makes the remote work." At the end of our study we will look at our spider charts again. We might want to change some of our comments!

Peter and the Wolf came to Outram School

On Friday we watched Peter and the Wolf. It was an excellent production. Can you remember who wrote the play?  Different instruments were used for the different characters. What instrument was used for Peter?

And still more goal achievers!

On Friday we had another medal ceremony. Saylah, Rylee, Britney, Zac and Amber worked so hard to reach their goal with their basic facts. Macy and Sean beat the clock with their 2x, 5x and 10x tables. You should hear Sean count in sevens! Matthew has persevered to improve his printing and Tessa is reading clearly and we can hear her. Well done champions!
