The Pen Pal letters are ready to send
We have written letters to introduce ourselves to our pen pals. Tomorrow they will be sent and we will eagerly wait for the replies. We hope they can read our printing and we hope they enjoy our decorated writing paper.
Kids Tryathlon
Four Room 9 children competed in the Weetbix Kids Tryathlon in the weekend. 1234 children took part in the event and the weather was perfect. I was able to watch Levi training for the event at the St Clare Salt Water Pool on Saturday.

Mya and Hadley share their "Extra for Experts"
We were really pleased to listen to Mya and Hadley as they shared their "Extra for Experts"research with the class. Well done children!
We are going to have pen pals
We have been busy writing our first letters to our pen pals. We thought about what we should say and then wrote our first draft. Today we were able to publish our letters and now they are ready to send. We can't wait to receive a reply!
Another bumper harvest at the Garden Club
There was a tremendous harvest of vegetables today. In the tunnel house it took ages to collect all the tomatoes, cucumbers and egg plants. Outside corn, beans, sugar snap peas and strawberries were collected. Everybody went home with a big bag of vegetables.
There was serious measuring happening in Room 9 today
Working in pairs the children had a list of classroom places to measure. It was pleasing to see the accuracy and the confidence of the children as they used their rulers.

We love visiting the Allen Centre!
The Allen Centre is always busy, especially at lunch time. Today the Sketching Club worked at their drawing skills. Other children explored the dinoscope while another group made frog bookmarks.
Super Sahara Sand Sample
My nana's friend brought this sand from the Sahara Desert. It is orange. The desert is very hot. Nothing much grows there.

A Fluffy Friend Visits Room 9!
This is my rabbit. She is called Izzy.
She kept running away from us.
We kept following her.
Izzy is a most unusual rabbit! She plays in the house and she is potty-trained. Sometimes she gets pushed around in the pram so that she doesn't get cold or stolen by a dog. We love her, but Izzy doesn't really love Dad very much, in fact she bit him once. Poor Dad!

An email from Hadley
Dear Room 9
We saw on the class blog that Levi brought a skink to show. We found this skink at our place last weekend. We caught it for a while and then let it go. It moved along our path very quickly.

Everything is growing in Room 9
Today Levi brought in a skink for us to study. It was so interesting. Then we thought that the caterpillar had disappeared until we spied a beautiful cocoon. Thank you Will for finding information for us. Some of us were worried that the venus flytraps would gobble up the caterpillar but all is well. I wonder how long we will have to wait for the butterfly to emerge?

Success at the Flower Show
There was great activity at the Presbyterian Hall today and in the middle of the business Room 9 was shining. Well done everyone. Your sand saucers looked great.
Railway tracks!
Railway tracks is a great fitness activity. Two teams raced up the field today and it was a very close race. We have to remember to lie flat and tuck our heads in.

A huge harvest at Garden Club
We thought we had a big harvest last week at Garden Club but look how much we harvested today. There were cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, potatoes, courgettes, egg plants, carrots and strawberries! Everyone took home a large bag of vegetables.
Preparing sand saucers for the Flower Show
There was great activity this afternoon as we prepared our sand saucers for the Flower Show. We worked hard at the design and the colour combinations. Now they are all waiting to be judged and tomorrow we will be able to see the results of the competition.

A visit to the marae
We were off on another visit today to the marae. What a lot we learnt. We were formally welcomed on to the marae and we sang our waiata. After morning tea we played Maori games, presented our mihi and listened to stories. After lunch we faced our biggest challenge - flax weaving. It was good that our leaders were very patient! Finally we planted our gift to the marae and then headed back to school. It was a great day!
