More bridges

Regan and Kylie arrived with a magnificent bridge built by the whole family. We looked in wonderment at the fine construction. Wow! Then we were surprised with a visit from the Room 8 bridges. What clever, clever children we have at Outram School!

A special principal's award for Andrew

Today certificates were given out in assembly for those children who had been demonstrating respect for ourselves and for others. This has been our current challenge. What we didn't know was that Mr Marshall had decided to give a special award for an outstanding example of this at Outram School. Room 9 shone with pleasure as our very own Andrew was chosen to receive this award. We are so proud of you Andrew!

An important day for our 3D paper spill construction

Today was an important day for our 3D paper spill construction. Mrs Stedman came to assess our effort. She was VERY impressed. We got 5 gold stars for being free standing. We got another 5 gold stars for having moving parts and we got 4 gold stars for our use of tape. Then we were delighted to receive prizes! We got Su Doku books, a story starter kit and a wonderful new book to enjoy, "Beautiful Oops!" Thank you dear Mrs Stedman. Congratulations Room 9!

Pretty amazing poetry books!

On Monday mornings as part of our reading rotation we illustrate our poem of the week. We have to read the poem carefully to make sure our picture reflects the poem. Syardhana and Seth always amaze us with their illustrations!

Thursday is Allen Centre day.

Today in the Allen Centre we looked in wonder at the 3D paper spill creation made by the seniors. We shared the challenges we have had with our paper spill creation. Then we were busy choosing books and enjoying this wonderful place.

Pyjama Day

We giggled and laughed as we started the day in our pyjamas. The School Council arranged the event to raise money for more sports gear.

Brilliant bridge building!

Today was the day to build bridges. Everyone brought along their bridge building material and the building began.  There were many challenges, but by the end of the morning everyone had finished their bridge. We all made sure that our bridge would support a toy car. We were very pleased to share our bridges with Mr Marshall. Thank you to our kind hot glue gun operators.

Room 9 Little Theatre has a busy day

We love to present plays in Room 9 and today there were three performances. Three reading groups prepared and then presented a play to the class. It was very entertaining. Afterwards each group asked us some very challenging questions.

Champion

On Saturday I went to horse riding. It was my last week and it was my gymkana. I got 3 rossets. The red one was 1st. The blue one was 2nd and the green one was 4th. I was very  proud of myself. I really want to do it again next year.

Time to start planning for "Bridge Building Day"

Bridge Building Day is on Wednesday so we were busy today working on our planning sheet. We sketched three different bridges and then chose our favourite one to build. We also listed all the things we need to bring from home. It's going to be fun!

A bridge building challenge

Today we read the "Incredible Bridge" book together. Before we got to the end we all tried the one piece of paper bridge challenge. Some of us managed! We then finished reading the book and learnt how to cut and fold the paper to make a bridge. Look how strong this bridge is!

El Gregoe

On Tuesday, El Gregoe came to our school.  "Amazing!" I whispered to Meg. "I know," she whispered back. Then he called me up. My knees were shaking really fast. El Gregoe gave me a frisbee saying, "You've got the power."  After,  he got Seymour out and Seymour was really funny. He even made water come out of Syardhana's elbow. I love El Gregoe!

Patter Tennis

We have been playing nonstop cricket during syndicate sport. We decided we all needed some extra practice with batting so out came the patter tennis bats. Our senior buddies, Jakob, Charlie and Tiane also came to help us learn these skills. What great buddies! But gosh, it was quite tricky!

Karate at Japanese Club

Gosh what fun we have at Japanese Club. Today it was karate. Special instructors came and demonstrated some basic moves. Look how quickly everyone got moving.  Lunchtimes are so busy. We also had Gardening Club and Sketching Club in the Allen Centre. If that wasn't enough, the seniors also organised a huge game of Octopus for the Year 1 - 4 children!
