I've been busy!

About three weeks ago Logie brought some different types of crystals in and then I decided to make some salt crystal . Three weeks later I checked them and they were all ready to go .

Accuracy and Excellence

Today we worked at our dribbling skills - up the court dribbling with our feet, then a shot at the goal before hand dribbling back to our team. It was not as easy as it looked we found!

Clever Girls

On Saturday me and Amy made a flax mat for our tree hut. At first it kept on
falling apart so I ran inside and got the stapler. But it was to fragile so we put planks
under it.

Visiting a shopping mall

It is the holy month of Ramadan in Qatar. This is a time when people fast during the day. Fasting means to go without food and water. The shopping mall was decorated for Ramadan and all the eating places like McDonalds were closed. Dates are traditionally eaten to mark the end of the fast each day at a special meal called Iftar. The supermarket had a big display of different types of dates. I was glad that I didn't need to fast and that we could enjoy breakfast and lunch at our apartment.

I'm living in the desert!

If you were here the heat would amaze you! People race between air conditioned cars and air conditioned shopping malls. Yesterday it was 47 degrees. As we drive around  we can see trees and grass growing but they need to be watered all the time. Where there is no water, you can see the sand. But do you know where the water comes from and what do you think of these zig zag buildings? At night it looks very beautiful!

It looks very different to Dunedin

This is the view from our apartment. You can see many new buildings going up. You will also see through the haze the city centre in the distance. It is over 45 degrees and very, very, very hot.

Over the seas and far away!

I flew from Christchurch to Sydney and then to Bangkok and to Dubai. Finally I climbed on to the last plane that you can see here and flew on to Qatar. Looking out the window I could see desert stretching away in all directions. Waiting at the airport was my dear family and finally I met Noah. I think we're going to be good friends! The heat outside is incredible - about 45 degrees! Air conditioning inside keeps everyone comfortable. On the way from the airport I could see green grass growing. See if you can find out how they get grass to grow in the desert. Happy holidays everyone.

The Taieri College Band comes to entertain us

What a great afternoon we had listening to the Taieri College band. We clapped and sang and even danced to the music. It was really good to see our old friend Todd singing and playing his guitar. I wonder how many Room 9 guitar players will be in the Taieri College band one day!

What a beautiful book!

Today in the Allen Centre, Mrs Stedman shared a brand new book, "Birds of a feather," with us. We sat is silence as she turned the pages. What was your favourite page? One page was covered with different sized birds eggs. When the egg was lifted you could see underneath the bird that laid it.

The Room 9 Bird Cafe is a busy place for the wax eyes!

It was thrilling to see clouds of wax eyes descending upon our class bird table. They loved our delicious bird food. Hopefully they will now feel a little more cheerful on these freezing mornings. Who can tell us where the wax eyes go to keep warm at night?

The Lions reading group presented a play, "The King's Parade" to the class today. We laughed and laughed when the king's men tried to rescue Humpty Dumpty. At the end of the day we had a happy sing-a-long with Room 10. Mmmm I think we are nearly ready for an assembly item!

The Freezing Frost

Oh its cold!  It's as cold as a crab in the water.
Its like a winter wonderland .

First Aid with Belinda

This afternoon we had a very interesting first aid session with Belinda. We learnt what to do with nose bleeds, bee stings, cuts and grazes and falls. It was good to practice these skills.

Ten Cent Book Sale

Over 3000 books were collected for the big sale today. Everyone raced to the Allen Centre at lunchtime today to spend their 10 cent coins and everyone took home huge bags of books to enjoy. Happy reading everyone.

Kapa Haka performance at the Mosgiel Library

Today the Kapa Haka group travelled into the Mosgiel Library to perform. There are plenty of Room 9 faces shining amongst the performers including Ezra and Rylan on the guitar.
