What happens when you eat baked beans

Today we watched a video clip from Suzy's World. Before the video we drew what we thought happened when we eat food. Then we watched the video. After that we had a second try at drawing. We were amazed at how clever the body is and how everything is all so connected.

Coins for Christchurch

On Friday our School Council organised a coin trail for Christchurch. We all brought along our coins and placed them on to a heart shape. It was good to be able to help. Can you find out how much money we raised?

Our Darkest Hour

This morning we stood in silence for a minute to remember all those affected by the Christchurch earthquake. It is very, very sad. Today we wrote stories about the earthquake. So many of us know people in Christchurch.

Long and short vowels bingo games

We are working hard to learn the difference between the long and short vowels. This will help with our reading and writing. How many /long a/ vowels patterns can we think of?

The Taieri Plains Triathlon

This amazing group of athletes took part in the Taieri Plains Triathlon on Friday. You are champions. Let us know how you got on.

Making connections!

This year our big theme is "Making connections." In buzz groups we thought of all the ways that things can connect. It was surprising how many we thought of. We connect with each other in the class. Some of us did a puzzle to show how the pieces connect. We thought about how letters connect to make words and numbers connect to make equations. We even thought about the connections in a game of touch. The world is full of connections!

Josh, you are so clever

Josh worked with Bailey to make a "spinner." Then when it was finished they brought it along to Room 9 to share with us. It was amazing watching it spin as the pattern stared to form.

We really love the Allen Centre

Every lunchtime wonderful activities are available in the Allen Centre. Abigail became a conchologist today and sorted and graded shells. Charlotte and Charlie happily did shell art together while Dylan worked hard with Jade, a big buddy, and learnt how to make a fishing fly.
Josh and big buddy Bailey followed a plan and made a remarkable machine that could make wonderful designs. We are so lucky to have the Allen Centre!

Outram School Gardening club

There was great activity at the Gardening Club today. Everyone went home with huge bags of tomatoes. There was also delicious smells coming from the Workshop where new seasons potatoes were being cooked and eaten!

A helicopter came visiting

It was "H" day in Mrs Bayne's class today and a helicopter came to visit. We were very pleased to be invited to share in the exciting visit. We felt as if we might get blown off the field. Thank you to the team at the Rescue helicopters.

Concentrating with our printing

Champion Swimmers

Today we had another session in our school swimming pool. Group One is working hard at their leg and arm action while Group Two is learning to use breathing with freestyle. We are so lucky to have a school swimming pool.

We love the Allen Centre

Today was our first session in the Allan Centre. There is a huge display of shells, a focus for this term. Have you got any interesting shells at home to share? Why not bring them along. Isaac and Lachlan quickly started investigating. Of course we all chose new library books and Ben and Henry couldn't wait to read them.

Experts in our classroom

We had a treasure hunt to discover all the talents in Room 9. We had to choose our favourite interest from a list of six - sports, books, pets, collecting, music, or something else altogether. We had to find someone for each category. Now we have groups of experts in Room 9. This will be very helpful for us.

Flower Show art

Today we had our first session in the Workshop to prepare our art for the Flower Show. First we studied flowers and made sketches of them. Then we did our final sketch and used pastels and dye to add colour. We will finish them next week. They will look great!

Another visitor to Room 9

This morning Zayne brought a huhu beetle to Room 9. It flew in through a door at Zayne's house. What a lot we found out when we asked Zayne some "I wonder" questions. Can you find out where huhu beetles live and what they like to eat?

Doughnut sharing and independent writing

We have had many conversations about our holidays. There is so much to share. Yesterday we used our buzz groups and today we did doughnut sharing. We then did our first independent piece of writing for the year. Mmm I wonder how much we have remembered.
