Challenging Art

Our task yesterday was to draw self portraits that showed we were moving.  There were gymnasts on the beam, rugby players scoring a try, ballerinas, cricket players..... Alex is busy applying dye to his portrait. Looks good Alex!

Seal bone investigation

Today Mrs Steadman showed us a collection of bones belonging to a seal.  We have a Junior Wiki Challenge underway to see who can put the bones of the flipper together.  Do you think you can do it Ezekiel?

Lovely library time with Mrs Steadman

This week Amy and Brianna are class librarians. Here we are having a chat with Mrs Steadman in our beautiful Allen Centre.

Brand new and shining already!

We were very pleased to welcome Tyler into Room 9. Already she has shown us her perseverance and dedication. This week she was able to put her head under in the swimming pool. It won't be long before she is floating.

Happy wet lunch times

We had our first wet lunch time today and we were all very happy. 26 children in a small classroom on a wet day can be a challenge but Room 9 as usual were able to shine. Kayleigh and Mika completed this giant jig saw puzzle in record time. Have you got any puzzles or games at home that we could borrow?

Looking for a new tooth

Connor's first tooth came out at school today and it didn't even hurt! In Room 9 many children have gaps in their mouths. I wonder how long it will take for the gap to fill Connor?

The Landscapes start to appear!

Slowly and carefully we tried to use the same painting style as Van Gogh. We used lots of short brush strokes. That sky is looking so good Mackenzie. Come to the Flower Show to see our paintings.

Van Gogh Landscapes

After looking carefully at the landscapes around our school, we came into the workshop and started sketching. You're off to a great start Alex!

Landscapes for the Flower Show

We decided to do landscapes in the style of the painter Van Gogh. We looked carefully at how he painted. We loved the colour and impact of his painting. We went outside and looked up at the Maungatuas to see what a real landscape looked like.

Up, up and away we go! Room 9 in 2009!

What a fine group of children! Here we are ready to set off on our learning journey for the year.  Room 9 always shines but especially in 2009! We welcome viewers and comments on our blog site.
