A beautiful day for an inter house challenge

The whole school gathered on the courts to listen as Mr Marshall explained how the challenge would be run. The four houses would compete against each other in age groups. Each team had two girls and two boys who had to work together to complete the challenge. Room 9 raced into the activities with great excitement, leaping over fences, clambering under tables, hauling heavy sacks, carefully tip toeing across a ladder and even hauling heavy tyres. What a wonderful afternoon. I wonder which house won?

A final competition and then goodbye!

After lunch the paper plane flying competition began. The winners had a great design and impressive throwing skills. Finally we all said goodbye before our pen pals boarded their double decker bus to return to Dunedin.

The second challenge was to see who could make a paper plane that would fly the furthest. Before we tested the planes we all shared a delicious lunch sitting outside in the sunshine.

Our Penpals come to visit

There was great excitement in Room 9 this morning as our pen pals walked into the classroom. It was good to finally talk to them. After play we had two technology challenges. First of all we had to see who could make a freestanding paper tower that would support a ball. It was very tricky and only one group succeeded.

Pareidolia

Since we were tiny babies we have been conditioned to recognise faces. Today in the Allen Centre Mrs Stedman showed us how we can see faces in clouds, butterflies and even on the surface of Mars. This is called pareidolia.  She then showed us how to do ink blots and to study the results to see what we could see. It was fun!

First thing this morning

First thing this morning we were entertained by Gabby playing her violin. She has been learning for over a year now and will soon be playing in a concert at the Town Hall. After this our "Extra for Experts" for the week shared their research on Ghana. This will be very helpful with our Commonwealth studies. Finally we congratulated our speedy cross country racers who were placed in the inter school event. Well done everyone.

What beautiful fish and what super sewing!

Our batik sewn fish are finished. We had a busy day sewing on Tuesday and then we finished the final stitching on Wednesday. Everyone did a great job and quite a few children learnt how to sew.

Room 9 Super Stars

Today Will shared his dog poster with the class. On the back he has written some very interesting facts. Then Hartley shared his writing with the class. We always love listening to his stories. Finally, the Koalas reading group presented a play to the class and challenged us with some tricky questions afterwards. Well done boys.

Year 3 Champions at the inter school cross country races

Liam and Liam ran a fine race coming first and second. Even though it was raining and the ground was very muddy, the boys showed great determination and perseverance.

Our batik art continues

Today we added dye to our fish. The colours were bright and vivid. Then we either pulled the wax off or ironed it off. Finally, we had a great team of adults to help us with the sewing. It was tricky but we all succeeded. Tomorrow we will finish the sewing.
