We don't find these birds on our bird table

In the weekend I was on Stewart Island and I watched these wonderful birds. Who can tell me what they are called? I thought their bird table was brilliant. What do you think?

There's always something happening in the Allen Centre!

Children collected ice in the playground and Mrs Stedman showed us how to examine it with the microscope. There on the edge of the screen was a perfect hexagon. We also looked at Michael's remarkable sketch.

Extra for Experts thought about friendship

The Extra for Experts challenge this week was to focus on friendship by producing a rap, a song, a poem, a poster, a story or a model. We enjoyed looking at Liam, Laura and Briar's posters and Emilee's model, we listened to Hailey's poem  and we all joined in with Lily's rap. Well done children.

Wacky Hair day

Today it was Wacky Hair Day to raise money for hungry children in New Zealand. The hair styles were amazing. Briar's was a bird's nest complete with a chirping bird! What a great effort children, we really enjoyed looking at your hair creations!

A busy day at the Room 9 Bird Cafe

This morning when I drove to school it was -6 degrees! In the staff room there were some stale scones so we covered them with honey and put them on the bird table.  Flocks of wax eyes and sparrows enjoyed the feast. Suddenly a beautiful tui landed on the table and all the smaller birds quickly settled in a nearby tree waiting for the tui to leave.

Hartley

Mario Picture

Yesterday I went to art class. I drew a picture of Mario. I painted Mario with a paint brush and Jill helped me. I want to keep it. I will show Nana.

By Hartley

What a great job Hartley did :). We loved this picture because he looks just like the real one!

Thinking about feelings

Today we worked in small groups to show what different feelings look like. Can you guess what feelings these children are showing? Let's see who gets it right.

The Room 9 Bird Cafe is open again

It has been freezing at school. This morning it was -3degrees when I drove in. Thankfully I was able to walk into a warm classroom. Can you imagine what it is like for these wax eyes and sparrows? We need to look after them.

How are we feeling today?

This week we are going to use the Life Education booklet to record our feelings every day. It was interesting to stop and think about the day and decide how we had been feeling.

Monday morning sharing

This morning Briar and Hannah shared their guitar finger picking with the class. They have learnt to read tabulature on the guitar and it sounded great. Mia has been making crystals and we listened with admiration. Finally Hartley read his story to us beautifully and then checked to see if we were listening. Thank you children.

What can we make out of plastic?

Today while we were at the Allen Centre, Mrs Stedman showed us how plastic bags could be transformed into beautiful creations. She showed us how to make plastic rope, ballet tutus and incredible clothes with smocking designs. We sat in amazement. Some of us are going to try to make the plastic rope.

We have the best school library

Every Friday we go to the Allen Centre to choose new books. There is a huge selection and Mrs Stedman is always there to help us. Hannah was doing a great job issuing books today.

Our second visit to the Life Education Bus

The Life Education Bus is a wonderful place to visit because we meet Pip again. Today we talked about how we can fill or empty each other's buckets. Harold the giraffe even sang to us. A visit with Pip always makes us feel very special.

Farewell Mr Larkin and thank you from Room 9

For many years we have enjoyed the Andersons Bay flags that Mr Warwick Larkin has flown above his house. We have competed to see who could name the country first. Sadly Mr Larkin died recently and we will miss him. I have photos of the flags that I will continue to use and we will continue to think of Mr Larkin.

Who will be the first to name this easy flag? Can you name the capital of this country and the president?

Sharing

There was certainly a lot of sharing today. We talked about a car crash, Isaac shared his precious rocks and Angus showed us photos of his trip to Australia. What sort of snake did you have wrapped around your neck Angus?

Life Education Bus

It is always such a treat when Pip and Harold arrive with the Life Education Bus. What a lot we learnt about getting on with our classmates.
