Last day of swimming on Tuesday

Amazingly we have been able to swim for 9 weeks of this term.  Kevin told us that the water was 28 degrees.  Today we had swimming competitions using all the strokes that we know and some that we made up. Then we had a star fish floating competition and Angus was the clear champion.

Mmm ... can you name this flag?

Near my house, a new flag is flown every day. I wonder who will be the first to name the country that flies this flag.

Garden Club

There was a great harvest at Garden Club today. Reuben, Michael, Liam and Anita took home a big bag of fresh vegetables. Reuben went to Garden Club for the first time today. Did you enjoy it Reuben?

Following a net to make a 3D shape

Making 3D shapes was a great maths activity on the morning after camp. We soon learnt that speed was not needed. Slow and careful cutting and folding resulted in some brilliant 3D shapes.

Look what we did!

There were so many activities to keep us busy. We loved the hut building and Mr Marshall's team building activity. Everyone made their own lunch and everyone took part in a huge paper challenge! It was easy for everyone to get to sleep after such a busy time.

Oh what a camp!

It was good to stay overnight at the Waiora Camp. We had time to take part in many activities such as the three hour tramp, the water slide and the confidence course. What was your favourite activity?

Wonderful Waiora Camp

What a busy time we had at the Waiora Scout Camp. It was pouring with rain as we drove in but all was well. We were able to do all our outdoor activities with no problems and what fun we had!

Oh dear, oh dear!

Today we all looked in wonder at Kylie's broken leg. Regan told us what had happened. We hope your leg heals quickly Kylie!

Seeds have been gathering in Room 9

Out seed collection began when Noah brought us a bag of chestnuts. Since then acorns, walnuts, sycamore seeds, sunflower seeds, bean seeds, and pine nuts have arrived. Today Isaac brought a huge seed - a coconut. We have thought about all the ways that seeds travel.

First Aid for Room 9

We were very lucky to have a session on First Aid. We learnt how to deal with a bleeding nose. We also learnt how to apply a bandage to an arm wound. Finally we practiced making an emergency 111 phone call. These are very useful skills to know.

A marvelous evening for a Mardi Gras

We all had a wonderful evening at the Outram School Mardi Gras. The weather was perfect and the crowd was huge. Business was brisk in the Pirates' Cove and there were some energetic sword fights with the resident pirates!

A presentation from Hannah

What a lovely surprise we had in the Allen Centre this morning. Our very own Hannah has a display in the library and we listened with great interest as she shared her knowledge of feathers with us. Thank you Hannah.

Friday morning fitness

We couldn't have fitness on the courts this morning because people were setting up for the Mardi Gras. Instead everyone ran  a course around the school keeping up an impressive speed.

Rap-unzel and The NZ Playhouse

Today The New Zealand Playhouse visited Outram School and presented Rap-unzel. They were terrific and we laughed and laughed and laughed. It is a real challenge to engage both Year 1 and Year 8 children at the same time and this team easily succeeded.
