Another new flag

You will have to look really carefully with this flag. Who will be the first person to find out which country flies this flag?

2D shapes

This term we have a focus on geometry and today it was time to make 2D shapes. Mmmm lots of accurate pentagons. Well done! Can you make a hexagon or an octagon? Mmm I wonder why the Octagon in the middle of Dunedin has that name?

Mini Olympics at Outram School

Next Friday, August 10th, there will be a mini Olympics at Outram School. Each class have chosen a country to represent  and Room 9 have chosen Switzerland. On Olympic day we will each need to wear a red tee shirt with a white cross on the front and back so that we look like the Swiss flag. How can we source red tee shirts? Today we practiced for the first event - paper plane target throw.

Harrison was player of the day

Harrison was very proud to be chosen as player of the day. Now we need to hear all about it Harrison.

We loved listening to our Kapa haka group

The Outram Kapa Haka group performed at our Junior Syndicate time and we thought they were marvelous. They have recently performed at the Mosgiel Library in their brand new costumes. Well done everyone.

Great guitar playing

The Room 9 Guitar Club children love to lead our early morning sing song on guitar day. Look how hard they are concentrating as they form the chords. I hope your fingers are not hurting too much!

Room 9 we shine all the time!

Today it was our turn to present an item at assembly and with only one week to prepare we had to work hard. First we shared our winter landscapes and then we put on hats and scarves and recited a poem, "It's freezing" by Jack Prelutsky. Finally we sang one of the Keeping Ourselves Safe songs - "Like a bright star." These clever children learnt all the words in one week. Wow!

Chinese writing at lunch time

On Wednesday I went to chinese writing at lunch time . You have a paint brush made out of bear hair. Doesn't it look fun.

Mmmm I wonder if I can do this?

Evie was part of a group enjoying another Allen Centre activity at lunch time. Look how she practices with water first carefully following the patterns. Finally she uses the very special ink. What a fun thing to do at lunch time.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

Today it was the turn of the Seals reading group to present a play at the Room 9 Little Theatre. Three Billy Goats walked bravely over the bridge and faced the very fierce troll.

Ball skills in the sunshine

It was so good to see the sun shining today so that we could go outside and practice our ball skills. We were learning how to dribble the ball. We had to really concentrate!

Keeping ourselves safe

Today we had our first session with Constable Ross. We learnt what to do if we get lost. It is very important that we know this. We also watched Bryan and Bobby on a DVD. It was a great session.

A new play for a new term

The Room 9 Little Theatre was open again today and the audience really enjoyed the performance of "Too many Mangoes." Well done Penguins! You made us laugh and laugh and laugh!

Gosh that is very interesting Fynn

Today Fynn brought along a weather balloon to Room 9. It landed in a field on his farm. The balloon must have been huge before it popped. What can we find out about weather balloons?

So much news to catch up with

It was good to be back at school today. There was plenty to chat about when we did our doughnut sharing. I think we could have talked all morning! We heard about Kerah's tonsils, Ezra's whale watching, Ethan's trip to Milton and on and on it went!  Welcome back everyone!

A holiday flag to guess

Mmm who can find out which country this flag belongs to?  Can anyone tell us why the flag is pointing in this direction?  Hope you are having a happy holiday!
