A letter from the Prime Minister

We wrote individual letters to the Prime Minister last term voicing our concern about pollution in New Zealand and offering some solutions. We were delighted to get a reply from him.
I hope you all have a very happy Christmas and a wonderful holiday season. Take care! x x x

Pomanders on the way

We decided to make pomanders in Room 9. The scent of the cloves and orange was incredible. It was quite hard work but surprisingly satisfying making our own designs. Some of us had tender finger tops after a while. Hope they smell good at home.

Last fitness for the year

We decided to do Jump Jam for the last fitness session of the year. We chose all our favourites and had a real work out.

Now where does this flag come from?

Who will be the first to find out where today's flag comes from? What can you find out about this country?

Picnic in the park

Today the Junior Syndicate had a picnic at the rugby grounds. After lunch and a long play we had lots of different races. What was your favourite race? I know some of you found the three-legged race very difficult. Here we are lining up to get an ice block.

The Bouncy Castle

Today the School Council arranged to have the Bouncy Castle for the day. Every class had a chance to be on it. Thank you School Council members!

A story from Willow

Today Willow brought along a story to read to us. She read "Titus's Troublesome Tooth," beautifully. We have been singing a song called "Old Morgan's goat" and the song reminded Willow of this book. Thank you Willow.

Olympic star on the way

Today Riley D brought along some of his athletics ribbons. He goes to an athletics club in Dunedin. He got one first and two second ribbons. What is your favourite event Riley?

A brand new novel

Today we had the first reading of George's fifth novel "The Albatross and the Mouse." What a great story George. What will your next story be about?

Today we made our Christmas tree. There are over 200 hand prints on the tree. When the tree was compete we added tinsel and lights. It looks very beautiful.

New friends

Yesterday I made new friends with Imogen and Penny who go to Duntroon School. Can anyone find out where Duntroon is? If you want a clue it is near Kurow. Imogen is in Year 3 and Penny is in Year 2. They both love writing stories and drawing.

A cup for Tyla

At the school prize giving Tyla was chosen to receive the Kelly cup for the student in the Junior Syndicate who best demonstrates our school challenges. You are terrific Tyla!

Look what has finally arrived!

A few weeks ago we planted sun-flower seeds. One seed was put in the fridge and after many days there was still no sign of a germinating seed. We felt sorry for the seed and put it on to the window sill. We waited and waited but nothing happened. Now finally we can see it is growing.

A great harvest for the Gardening Club

There was great activity at the vegetable garden today. Everyone helped with the harvest and everyone took a bag of fresh vegetables home. I wonder if anyone has their own vegetable garden at home. Who can see Jacob and Joel?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Today we said thank you to Ella-Rose's Mum and little sister Emily. They have helped all year with our reading rotation especially when we played games. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What a rocket

Today Ben arrived with his own rocket that he had made. He shared with the class how he made it and answered our questions. Now we are wondering here you are heading for Ben.

A newspaper challenge

Our challenge today was to see how high we could make a tower out of newspaper. Each group had the same amount of paper and tape. First we had to plan and then there was a lot of experimenting. It was very difficult. Who can remember how high the winning team's tower was?

Wet and Wild

video
Today we walked down to the rugby field to take part in the annual "Wet and Wild". This was organised by the school council. It was brilliant!

Now that is puzzling

How many ways can these puzzles be completed. George, Willow and Ethan found six different patterns on their puzzle. Can you find more?

Outram Sprint with our basic facts

We often practice our basic facts in maths. Some of us still need to use our fingers. Some of us know short cuts. What short cut are you using Kimberly?

Gosh what balance!

Today Mr Grace taught us some more balance exercises. They were not easy. Look at Gabby balancing her body on her hands. Ethan and Jacob are balancing their bodies.

Let's play our own games!

Last week our Extra for Experts task was to make a maths game. Today we tried out Tyla and Joe's games. Both games worked really well. Who could use the thinking hats to make some comments about the games?

Making patterns

Today Room 9 made patterns. First the groups had to decide how many variables they would use in their pattern. Then the rest of the class had to decide what the pattern was and then continue it.

The Christmas tree is up!

Book Fair

Today it was the Book Fair. Room 9 visited the Allen Centre to look and enjoy the books. We saw Craig Smith's new book, "Wilbee the Bumblebee." The fair will still be going tomorrow.

Holly comes to visit

Next year Holly will be coming to Outram School so today she spent the morning with us in Room 9. Holly knew Annalise, so they were great buddies today. We hope you enjoyed your morning Holly.

Sunflowers head for home

Today we put the sunflower seedings into plastic bags ready to carry home. Now they have traveled to their new homes. Let's see whose sunflower can grow the tallest in two weeks. Measure your plant, take photos and send them to Room 9 so we can all compare plants.
