Mobile Magic with Emma

I took a book out of the library on mobile making. At home I made this mobile. I really liked painting the horses.

First novel published

Today in library time Mrs Steadman presented Caleb with his published story. This book can now be borrowed from the library. Remember to issue it properly. Well done Caleb and thank you so much Mrs Steadman. We talked about how we need to carefully proof read our stories before they can be published. Samantha, Holly and Tessa are now busily proof reading their stories . I wonder if this is how Bill Peet started off as a writer.

Gold medals for goal achievers

This morning we joined with Room 7 for a very special medal ceremony. Fourteen children from Room 9 climbed up on to the podium to receive their medals. These children had persevered for two weeks to achieve their goal.  Jaden is now an expert at his 2x 5x and 10x tables. What is your next goal Jaden?  We still have some children working at their goals. Keep persevering so that you will be ready for the medal ceremony next Friday.

Hospice Fund raiser

Today, Outram School raised $216.90 for the Otago Community Hospice. The money was raised by having a "Wacky Hair Day." Take a look at these astonishing hair styles!

We got there!

Today I finished my goal. I didn't think I could  make it. I said my 3x and 4x tables in less than 30 seconds. I feel so great.
By Caleb
Jaden also achieved his goal.  He zoomed through the 2x, 5x and 10x tables. Yesterday he couldn't get through in the right time but today he got there easily. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. Well done boys you persevered well.
Here's a Quiz for you
Have a hunt in our blog comments and you will find a quiz waiting for you. Try to answer the questions before you look at the answers. Thank you Verna for the quiz.

Dreams can come true

On Thursday we were shown that dreams can come true. Our panel of experts told us how they did it. We heard that it was possible to become:-
  1. a registered nurse
  2. a half marathon walker
  3. a member of the Otago Women's Rugby Team
  4. a runner who ran for New Zealand
  5. a writer who had a book published
We heard about the steps they took to achieve their goals.  It was hard work and it took a lot of perseverance and dedication. But when they achieved their goal it was unbelievable! Keep reaching for the stars Room 9.

Big Buddy Time

Each Friday morning something remarkable happens at Outram School.  Room 9 join with their Year 7/8 buddies for a shared session. Often we play games. Recently we have been concentrating on ball skills. What is remarkable is the gentle mentoring that occurs from the big buddies and the trust and the delight shown by the little buddies. What great role models our seniors are!

Shalom Hamuera

Today was Hamuera's last day at Outram School. He has been a great friend and a fine role model in Room 9. We will miss you Hamu. Don't forget to write to us.

Macy shows perseverance and dedication

Macy worked all week to learn her 2x, 5x and 10x tables. Today she beat the clock by reciting each one in less than 30 seconds.  You have achieved your goal Macy.  You are a champion!

Our friend Rachel

Rachel is in the Otago women's rugby team. She told us how hard she had to train so that she could reach her goal. One of us might be in an Otago team one day.

Tell us your goal Devon

We have been working very hard at our individual goals. Every day we practice them and then we record our progress in our challenge booklets.  Some of us will need the two weeks to achieve our goal while others might finish tomorrow. Devon is making sure he has the correct hold on his pencil.  You are shining so brightly Room 9!

Look who came to visit today!

Grace popped into Room 9 after school today to visit her old classroom. She is really enjoying her new school but still misses her Outram School friends. Grace wrote a comment on one of our posts. Can you find it?

What a champion!

What fine results Jasen after only one day of the goal challenge. Look at your beautiful letters and flicks.  Such perseverance and dedication with your printing is amazing.  What will your printing be like at the end of the challenge?

Goals, goals, goals!

We are thinking a lot about perseverance and dedication. This week we all chose a goal to work towards. Here we are showing you our Challenge Books where we will keep a record of our progress. There are maths goals, printing goals, writing goals, holding a pencil correctly goals, and oral language goals. We feel like the Olympic athletes training for a big event. It will be hard work but Room 9 will shine all the time!

In case you missed the performance!

We decided to let you hear our recorder playing - just in case you missed it . This piece is called Down By The Station.

Perseverance and dedication with basic facts

Holly and Cheyenne are working so hard with their basic facts in maths. Cheyenne got 60/60 and is now going to try the Year 3 test. Holly is working on the Year 3 test and today got 45/60. Keep persevering Holly!

Remarkable Recorders

After all our practice our assembly item was a great success. We played Here's a little tune, Old MacDonald, Mary had a little lamb, Down by the station and The Grand Old Duke of York on our recorders. We also showed our batik wall hangings. Well done everyone.

Letters to China

Today we each wrote a message to an athlete in China. We wanted to encourage them and let them know that we were thinking of them. I wonder if any Room 9 children will represent New Zealand one day at the Olympic Games. Which athlete did you write to Caleb?

We got a video from China!

With the Olympics about to start we have been sent this by a reader from CHINA of our blog.  It is of a talent quest in their school.  The teacher is from NZ.

Tessa and Jordan persevere with our fitness circuit.

Every morning we join with Room 10 for fitness and we move around 8 different stations. We spend one minute on each activity and we work incredibly hard. When we come out of the hall 10 minutes later, our faces are pink and our hearts are beating fast. Keep up the good work Tessa and Jordan.

Circus Maximus by Mitchell

As soon as I sat down I saw people were everywhere on the mats.  Suddenly two crazy clowns came in with funny clothes on.  When one of the clowns got on a little one wheeler bike, he started going around and around.  Then for once the clown fell off the one wheeler bike.  It was serious!  He even needed an ice pack because it hurt so much. One of the clowns asked the other clown if he could take him to the beach.  But he could not build a sandcastle so he made a human castle.  That was the best day ever.

The Circus came to Outram!

On Friday we had a visit from Circus Maximus. We just loved the entertainment. What clever clowns they were. I wonder if anyone in Room 9 can juggle? It would take a lot of perseverance!

Detective Emma knows many New Zealand cities.

Emma went hunting for New Zealand cities and on Friday she shared with us how many she knew. Well done Emma!
