What a wonderful challenge!
Mr Marshall organised a wonderful end of term house challenge for us today. First, he showed us the course and then we lined up in our houses. It was important to work as a team. The competition was fierce and the cheering was loud. Tomorrow at assembly we will find out which house won.

Who should have the egg?
Working in teams, there were strong debates today as we considered whether Horton should have the egg or Maisie. Some felt that Horton had sat on the egg for 51 weeks so he deserved to have the egg. The Maisie supporters said that the baby bird would need a mother bird to feed it and teach it how to fly. We debated the topic and talked and talked. When we finally voted Horton won by one vote!

Describing a time when we built a hut
We are writing about a time when we built a hut. Today we closely studied a piece of writing by Gavin Bishop where he describes building huts as a child. We then shared our own hut building stories and nearly everyone had a story to share.

Garden Club has started again - it must be Spring!
A large group of children came to Garden Club today. First the gardens were dug and then compost was unloaded and added to the beds. After a final raking lettuces and potatoes were planted. What would we do without Trevor and Barbara!
Frozen Images
Today we continued learning drama conventions using the story of "Horton hatches the egg." We learnt how to make a frozen image where it looks like a photograph. At first we worked in pairs firstly telling a joke and then pretending to tell a friend that a pet had died. Finally we used this drama technique to make a frozen image of the animals laughing at Horton sitting on the nest.
Special visitors this morning
We were all delighted when Mrs Carter came into Room 9 this morning with baby Bryn. We sat close quietly watching him and asking questions. Mmm I wonder if he will come to Outram School.

Elgregoe the Magician from Christchurch
This afternoon we had a wonderful performance by Elgregoe the Magician. We laughed and we clapped and we were amazed at his brilliance. We also talked seriously about how to keep our school a happy and safe place.
More fun with Horton
Yesterday we learnt how to 'hot seat' and how to use telephone conversations in drama. Today we worked in pairs to practice going into role on the phone. Some of the conversations were brilliant. We then had phone calls with Horton in the bird's nest. Mackenzie became the leader when we were making rain. Finally the children had turns talking on the phone as either Maizie or Horton.

Writing and Eating in class?!?!?!
We are learning about writing instructions. Today we each made a jam sandwich and then we got to eat it. Some of us were not so keen on the sandwich, but the little birds at our bird feeding stand had a real party.
I wonder if any Room 9 child can leave a comment to tell us what a procedure has?
