When we got to school today we saw that something magical had happened. The bud had changed completely! Now we can see four leaves. But what is that something in the middle?
Last night it was the Outram School Speech night. Amy, Lilly and Elizabeth were chosen from Room 9 to recite a poem. They were terrific. Well done girls!
Every Friday we have Big Buddy time with Room 3 and it is great. Today it was a boys versus girls event. The Big Buddies had to get the Room 9 children across the hall by carrying them on a sports mat. The sports mat had to be rolled along on the top of balls. Thank you Room 3 for another superb session.
Some living creatures travel to warmer places during winter. This is called migrating. We read about the godwit that flies 11,000km from NZ to Alaska to escape from winter! We decided to be godwits and flew all the way to the end of the rugby field. By the time we had flown back to Room 9 we were exhausted. How does the godwit do it?
To help us understand why the seasons happen we all tried acting it out in groups. Cierra is the Earth on its axis tilting so that New Zealand has summer. Ashleigh is the moon travelling around the earth. Brianna is the sun and Lilly is explaining the drama to the class. Well done girls.
After we had sketched our birds we used pastels. Again we studied the photos carefully to check the colours. Isla mixed her pastels to get the right colour. What a perfect wood pigeon Isla!
We dyed the paper first and then lightly sketched our birds on to the paper. We had to keep looking at the bird we were drawing. Brilliant birds Connor and Oscar!
Welcome back to the Room 9 You Shine Blog! Term 3 is well underway. Last week we worked hard at our native bird art. Look at the concentration of these children as they study the pictures and make their own drawings. We will be sharing them at assembly this week.
