We were filled with curiosity and wonderment!

Today a brand new visitor quietly arrived into Room 9. Casey Caterpillar changed into a beautiful green jeweled chrysalis about 10 days ago. We have been watching the changes carefully and we were delighted to see the colours change today. Half way through maths Demi suddenly spied this beautiful butterfly newly hatched from it's chrysalis. We looked in awe and even saw it's curled tongue pushing in and out.

Summer Flowers

We were back in the Workshop this week to finish our summer flower art. We all worked very hard and if you look carefully you can see a little caterpillar munching away on a leaf. Mmm I wonder what sort of caterpillar it is?

Jolly good work Jacob!

Today, Jacob's Nana came to watch Jacob put his head under the water. Oh gosh! Where has he gone? We can see you Jacob but only the top of your head. You are a champion!

Round Robin activity with the four seasons

Today we thought about the four seasons and it was amazing how much we already know. We moved around the tables being careful to read the sheet each time we moved so that we didn't repeat facts already written. I wonder if anyone has a new fact in the morning.

Always lots to talk about!

First thing on a Monday morning there is always a lot to talk about. This morning Lily had found another wonderful photo of an ostrich. Great hunting Lily! Noah always likes a quiet game with the lego when he arrives in the morning and we always love looking at his models. Are you going to be a builder, an architect or a designer Noah?

Room 9 Assembly Item

We nervously presented our assembly item and were delighted that it went really well. Everyone had lines to learn starting with the first letter of their name. We then made words out of our letters and finally we each did our own movement as we left the stage. Room 9 you really do shine!

We will remember

Today we all stood in silence for two minutes to remember the people of Christchurch on the anniversary of the February 22nd earthquake when 185 people died. Many of us know people in Christchurch who were there when the big earthquake happened. We are thinking of them.

Hard work in the pool

Hunter and Ethan are working hard at their water skills while Sam is trying to get her breathing technique correct. It is so important that we all learn to swim confidently.

Flower Show place getters

Last week we prepared sand saucers for the Flower Show and these children were placed first, second or third. Well done children! We loved your designs.

The Marvelous Mardi Gras

Today we had the Outram Mardi Gras and it was terrific. There was great activity in the Pirates Cove where young pirates made cutlasses, dressed up in scarf and eye patch and were decorated with scars, beard and mustache. Finally they were given a container of raspberry jelly and crocodile jubes. What fun we all had!

Big Buddy Time

We have had our first session with our big buddies and what fun we had. In the first game the big buddies had to put us in alphabetical order without talking. They had to use hand signs to talk and it was difficult.

Moving art

Last Friday we practiced drawing moving people. We looked at how our arms and legs could bend. This week we drew ourselves moving and then used crayon and dye. Come and see our brilliant pictures at the Room 9 assembly this week.

The vegetables just keep growing!

We had another session harvesting the vegetables at Garden Club today. Afterwards everyone was able to fill a plastic bag with fresh vegetables to take home. We sure do have good soil at Outram!

It's the Flower Show again

It was our turn to do sand saucers again. We filled our containers with sand and then set to work with the decorating. We tried to make patterns with flowers. Why not come and see them at the Presbyterian church hall on Friday?

Spelling practice

Every morning we spend time carefully learning our spelling words. We all have our own words to learn and on Friday a team of parents come to help with the final testing. Look at these splendid spellers!

What a tooth!

In the holiday I went out and saw something. I went and picked it up. It was a cow's tooth. This will help it chew the grass!

What fun we had!

Today was Beach Education day at Brighton Beach and what a wonderful day we had even though it was a bit chilly. Jules and Zoe led excellent sessions on sea and sun safety and then they led us in some great beach games. We also made sand castles - this shark was voted the winner! Then it was time to enter the surf. Well done everyone for braving the waves and thank you to our wonderful parents!
