Winter Fitness

Oh no!

When Tyla was reading through her pile of garage sale books she found an Outram School library book tucked into her pile. Oh no! It must have happened on sorting day. Now it is back in the library so all is well. Thank you for being such a good book detective Tyla.

From Trash to Treasure take 2

Today Emma brought along a wonderful building. She made it out of one of her garage sale treasures. We think you're brilliant Emma. What will you make next?

Where did I go this weekend?

Where do you think I went this weekend? There was a lake and there was a lot of snow and it was freezing! It was 281 km from Dunedin. Where did I go and what can you find out about this place?

The Outram School Art Show

The Outram School Sketching Club has staged an art exhibition in the school hall. It is terrific. Gene showed us one of his sketches and Joel chose his favourite picture. Don't forget to come and see these brilliant, original art works.

The Art Show

In the hall we have an art show where people can come to see sketches done by Outram children.

Never a dull moment in the Allen Centre

Today Mrs Steadman shared her wonderful display about snowflakes. We discovered that there are many different snowflake shapes that depend on how cold it is and and much moisture there is in the air. We have an excellent new book in the Allen Centre showing incredible photos of snowflakes. Now all we need is a good snowfall!

What a feast!

The Outram School Bird Cafe is doing a roaring trade. There were 23 wax eyes and two sparrows on the table when we counted today. We feed them bird seed, bread soaked in sugar and water, fruit especially apples and fat from meat. Can anyone help us with other ideas for their menu?

What a lot of rubbish!

We went by bus to the recycling centres and were amazed at all the plastic and paper. We found out that when we wear micro fleece we are wearing plastic. We saw how the plastic and paper were squashed into bales to be sent away. Who can remember where it goes?

The Outram School Bird Cafe

The Outram School Bird Cafe opened today for the first time and the food quickly disappeared. The first customers were silver eyes also know as wax eyes. We are very pleased with the success of our bird table.

Your trash becomes my treasure!

Damien and Annalise are taking their treasures home. What a great garage sale we had. Time to start buying bird food.

Mmm I wonder what I should buy

Shelby, our big buddy, helps us choose and spend our money at the 10 cent table. Altogether we made $51.90. This was a wonderful way to reuse each other's toys.

New Bird table

Mr Heenan has made us a wonderful bird table. Thank you so much. Soon there will be food on the table and we can quietly watch and identify the birds.

All ready!

Today is the garage sale and all the toys have been sorted. There is so much to choose from. We all have $2 to spend.

A'sorting we will go!

Today we had great fun sorting the toys and books for our garage sale tomorrow. Hang in there birds. The food will soon be there.

Hooray Mrs Steadman is back

Mrs Steadman is back from China and guess what she brought with her? A dinosaur egg!!! I wonder who can remember what the name of the dinosaur was. See if you can find out. Can you name your favourite dinosaur? It might be tricky to spell.

Joel helps with the garage sale

Today we sorted through a mountain of books and toys for tomorrow's garage sale. Everything costs $2 or less and all the money we make will go to the bird food fund. Thanks for helping Joel

Box Models

Today we were back into the Workshop to finish our box models. It was really fun adding all the extra bits. We have thought of some great names for our new friends.

We've had a letter

Today we got a letter from Mr Heenan telling us that he is very happy to make us a bird table. We are going to have a Room 9 bird table - hooray!

A visitor for Room 9

Ella-Rose brought her friend Courtney to Room 9 to say hello today. Courtney is from Invercargill. Did you enjoy your visit Courtney? Did you listen to Ella-Rose play her guitar? She can play three chords now.

Training for the cross country race

The date for the cross country race is coming closer. Every day we join with Room 10 as we run around a very challenging circuit. We are certainly getting fitter.

More wet lunch times

Today Sean was very busy with the lego at lunch time. I wonder what you will build tomorrow Sean.

Brilliant Creations

This week for our "extra for experts" task we experimented to see what we could make out of an egg carton. Well done children.

There is a garage sale on the way!

Mrs Meehan told us about the birds on the Taieri that are suffering because of the cold. Room 9 decided to raise some money so that we can buy bird food for them. We will also ask Mr Heenan if he could make us a bird table. Together we made a list of everything we need to do. Already we have written a letter home and we have also written to Mr Heenan. What fun!

The banana skin rotted away and the floods have all gone now. Jessica we are going to have a garage sale in Room 9 to raise money for the hungry birds on the Taieri. We miss you .

What a busy lunchtime

There is always plenty to do at lunchtime. Joel, George and Mason made rockets in the Allen Centre while Annalise, Emma and Erin practiced netball on the courts. Riley A, Willow and Erin practiced with the kapa haka group in the hall while Trampus, Trent, Ben, George and Jacob made bird treats with Mrs Meehan in the Workshop. What a great school we have!

If it is to be, it is up to me take 2

Mrs Meehan told us about the sparrows that are dying on the Taieri Plains. They are cold and hungry. We can't make houses for them all but we can feed the birds around our school. We showed Mrs Meehan our plans for a garage sale to raise money for bird food.

Oh poor birds

It is already winter and leaves have fallen. There is no shelter for the birds.
